The Independent
A 21 year-old from Sarnia is facing a charge of attempted murder after a man was run over by a car near his home.
Police say the incident started just after midnight Sunday when officers were called to the 1200 block of Afton Drive and heard about a dispute between two men. During the argument, one of the men got into his red Mitsubishi SUV, drove it onto the victim’s front lawn and struck an e-bike.
Police say video shows the driver got out of the SUV and went toward the home with a metal pipe before leaving the scene.
Then, around 1:46 pm, police were called to the same home for a report of a person being struck by a vehicle.
Police found a 40 year-old man suffering from serious injuries. Video footage provided by the police and circulating on social media showed a red Mitsubishi SUV reversing quickly toward the victim and striking him, running over him, stopping then moving forward and running over him again. In the video circulating on like, the victim is stunned and bleeding but is able to talk with people who came to his aid before the ambulance.
The 40 year-old suffered what police said were serious injuries. He is in stable condition.
Police have arrested a 21 year-old and charged him with attempted murder, dangerous operation of a vehicle, mischief and failing to comply with a bail order.
Following a bail hearing Sunday, the man was held in custody.
