St. Clair Township council may have to find an extra $1.5 million for a $2.25 million project at the Moore Sports Complex pool as it sits down to work out the 2026 budget Thursday.
The township received a $1 million grant to renovate the pool last year. Monday, Director of Community Services Kendall Lindsay told council there was much more work to be done than expected. The 50-year old facilities pipes are “starting to fail.” With work already planned at the pool, Lindsay says it would make sense to fix it while the pool is closed instead of pulling the facility apart twice.
The township had budgeted for $750,000 for the original work. Another $1.5 million will be needed for the additional improvements.
Treasurer George Lozon said Monday he has “no idea” where that money would come from.
Also during Thursday’s 5 pm budget meeting, council will look at the $45 million capital budget. About half of that will be spent on the expansion of Courtright’s waste water treatment plant.
