Volunteers in sport, community and firefighting honoured

Mayor Jeff Agar has honoured 14 people and St. Clair Township’s firefighters in this year’s Volunteer Honour Roll.

“Our community thrives because of the incredible dedication, generosity, and spirit of its volunteers,” Agar said in a news release.

The list includes leaders in sport including Mike Lane of the Port Lambton minor baseball, Rose Atkins for her service on the St. Clair River Trail committee, Bryan Jeffrey for coaching and organization for Mooretown Lady Flags Girls’ minor hockey, and Marty Passmore of Mooretown Minor Hockey.

Several organizers of community events were also recognized including Emma Ouellette, John Scott and Julie Maw of the Brigden Fair. Maw was also recognized for her work with the Grain Farmers of Ontario. Marg Emery and Mike Deery were recognized for volunteering with the Corunna Legion, Nicole Krohn and Becky McNaule for their roles with Captain Kidd Days and Karri Bouman was recognized as organizer of Port Lambton’s Gala Days. And Marilyn Johnson was named for her work with the Moore Museum.

Agar also honoured the St. Clair Township Fire Department with its large compliment of volunteer firefighters. 

“Volunteers are the heart of St. Clair Township. Their commitment of time, energy, and passion strengthens our community, supports local events and organizations, and makes our township a better place to live for everyone,” Agar said.
