Barn destroyed in Saturday morning fire

February 28, 2026

The Independent

No one was injured in an early morning fire in St. Clair Township.

Fire Chief Richard Boyes says just before 6 am Saturday a driver noticed a pole barn on fire on Courtright Line and called 911.

Boyes says while no one was injured in the fire on the family farm, “there was livestock in the building and unfortunately, we lost a calf and some chickens.”

About 20 Firefighters from Courtright, Brigden, Wilkesport, and Port Lambton were on scene to help, many were shuttling water to the farm between Kimball and Tecumseh Roads.

Boyes says the fire was finally snuffed after an excavator came in to move steel so the hot spots could be extinguished.

Boyes estimates the damage at about $350,000.
