UPDATED: SIU investigating after woman ‘seriously injured’ in Inwood arrest

March 9, 2026

The Independent

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a woman in Inwood was seriously injured during an arrest by Lambton OPP.

Lambton OPP first released the information say shortly after 3:15 pm Sunday, officers arrested a person while investigating an incident. The OPP didn’t say where it occurred. While in custody, the person needed medical attention and was transported to a local hospital.

The SIU investigates anytime someone is injured or killed in police custody. Once the investigation begins, local officers cannot comment on the case.

Kristy Denette of the Special Investigations Unit says the preliminary investigation has found officers went to an Inwood home for a disturbance and arrested a woman for breaching her release order.

“There was an interaction with the woman and officers before she was handcuffed and taken to the detachment. The woman was transported to hospital where she was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.”

The SIU did not reveal the nature of the injury but did say it was serious. The woman was treated and returned to police custody.

The investigation continues.
