For the third consecutive season, members of the Sarnia Sting will be spectators when the OHL postseason begins next week.
Sarnia was officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 6-3 loss to the Windsor Spitfires in Sarnia Friday the 13th.
Jack Van Volsen scored first early in the first period depositing a one-timer on a pass from Sarvir Jaworski.
But Windsor rebounded and took a 2-1 lead into the second. The Spitfires increased its lead to 3-1 after two.
Sarnia was within a goal twice in the third period on goals by Kaden Aucoin, his second of the campaign and Mitch Young, his fourth of the season, but could not find the equalizer. It was Young’s 100th career regular season point.
Windsor iced the game with a pair of empty net goals in the final two minutes.
Sunday, Saginaw scored four times on the man advantage beating the Sting, 7-3.
The game deteriorated into a series of scrums, wrestling matches and misconducts in the third period
that left the Spirit with nine players on its bench to end the game. The Sting had eight.
Tyler Challenger, Young and Easton Walos with his team-leading 25th goal scored for the Sting. Beckham
Edwards had two assists.
Young, Ben Pickell and the injured Jordan Bax were honoured before the game as Sarnia’s graduating overage players.
Sarnia, winless in its last seven games, is home to Erie on Wednesday before ending the regular season with road games in Kitchener Friday and a return match with the Spirit in Saginaw Saturday night.
