Traffic stop leads to weapons charges

A Walpole Island man is facing 14 charges after a traffic stop on Walpole Island.
Walpole Island Police stopped a vehicle Tuesday around 3:30 pm on Chiefs Road. Officers called in Lambton OPP for further testing of the driver.
Police have charged a 26-year-old with eight firearms offences including unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The man has also been charged with impaired driving, refusing to give a breath sample, driving without a licence and driving with an open container of liquor.
Police issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
He’s in custody waiting for a bail hearing.
