LCCVI hurdlers make their mark leading up to LK track meet

Hurdlers from LCCVI won a trio of races at Great Lakes Secondary School leading up to the LKSSAA track and field championship.

Kole Chapman crossed the finish first in the senior boys’ 400-metre hurdles in a time of 57.3, nearly five seconds faster than his nearest competitor.  Xander Knapp won the junior boys 300-metre hurdles event in 43.40 seconds and Liam Hackett nosed out Lancer teammate Isaac Jahnke to take the novice boys’ 300-metre hurdle final.

Elsewhere, LCCVI’s Berkley Joy captured the junior girls’ 800-metre race in a time of 2:40.73 and Camlachie’s Keala Pickard of St. Patrick’s won the senior girls’ 800-metre race in 2:18.40.  Arlee Roder of North Lambton was the first to the finish line in the novice girls’ 800-metre race in 2:31.49.

Khloe Baron, James Grant, Julia Gardner, Rhys Marriott, Zoe Elliott, Rachel Brand and Heidi Shaw all had top five finishes on the track for LCCVI while Skyla Willemse, Hailey Reid and Jocelyn Field did likewise for North Lambton.

In field events, Mooretown’s Camryn Leitch of Great Lakes won a pair of event.  She had a heave of 36.01 metres to win the junior girls’ javelin and was also first in the junior girls’ discus with a throw of 29.85 metres.

LCCVI’s Jonah Wagner, Kailee Elliott and Spencer Horwood also topped the competition in their respective events.  Wagner was first in the novice boys’ triple jump with a leap of 11.63 metres, Elliott won the novice girls’ high jump at 1.56 metres and Horwood took the senior boys’ shot put by almost two metres with a put of 14.39 metres.

Amar Alfadili, Colten Anjema, Micah Siertsma, Christian Campbell, Rayah Minten, Jaylen Helps, James Colvin, Jayden Davis-Lumley, Amelia Graham, Sabine Gerrits and Keira Anjema, all of LCCVI had top five placings as did Petrolia’s Rachel Burns of St. Patrick’s.

The Lancers also had six, top-three finishes in relay event including its B team winning the novice girls’ 4×100-metre race.

The two-day Lambton Kent championships begins Tuesday morning (May 12) at 11 a.m and continues on Wednesday.
