Building community spirit in Wilkesport

Bill Myers remembers when community gathered to watch the tractor pull at the Wilkesport Community Centre.
The field has been empty for some time. In the 1990s, the pullers found other venues to accommodate their larger machines. The community missed the pull and the time together, Myers said Saturday.
So, he and his wife, Kathy, who had worked on a family fun day in Brigden, decided to bring the tractor pull back and add some fun for the community’s kids.
The activity is welcome as Myers and his friends try to build up the small village.
Myers says the Wilkesport Hall was very busy before the pandemic. In the last few years, they’ve hosted dances and jamborees, as a way of bringing the community together.
“We’re just trying to revitalize it and get things going again and help boost the community a little bit.”
The Family Day seemed to be a hit with cars filling the parking lot as soon as event began.
