Detour planned around Marthaville Road construction

The Independent

People who use Marthaville Road heading south on a regular basis will be taking the long way home for a while.

Construction on the Black Creek Bridge is expected to begin as early as July1. Marthaville Road between Oil Springs Line and 2669 Marthaville Road – just on the other side of the bridge – will be closed until late November while the work takes place.

There will be a detour in place using Oil Springs Line to Mandaumin Road to Courtright Line. Marthaville Road between the bridge and Courtright Line will only be open for emergency and local traffic, according to Darcy Mitchell, the township’s road superintendent.

The township accepted a $2.6 million tender from Cope Construction in April. Enniskillen will use cash received from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund, gas tax revenue and almost $400,000 from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund for the project.

The rest of the cost – just under $750,000 – with Enniskillen taking on debt for the first time in recent memory, authorizing a
$2.5 million line of credit.
