Imperial Oil employee takes home $4.5 million in Sarnia Legion

After 45 weeks, hundreds of thousands of tickets sold, food banks restocked and a whole lot of fun, the Chase for the Ace is over.
Thursday, Ashley Norton’s ticket was drawn at the Sarnia Legion. The 44-year-old Imperial Oil maintenance manager chose envelope number 31. Confetti exploded as Legion President Emeritus Les Jones opened the envelope revealing the ace.
Norton, who was at home, gathered up his family and made his way to the Legion where he was greeted with cheers.
Since week one, Norton’s wife, Bridget, has been buying tickets for the massive fundraiser. This week, Ashley picked up the tickets for the family.
The first purchase Norton made was a round for everyone at the Legion Thursday night.
Norton is not the only person to benefit from the event; the Legion will use some of the money raised to maintain the building for years to come. It also plans to give grants from the proceeds of the draw.

The Independent West Region OPP officers laid 1,815 charges following 2,107 traffic stops across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign. The campaign focused on speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving. Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over Law which gives emergency responders the space they need conduct other work on the roadside.
