It appears there won’t be an election for mayor in Petrolia, Enniskillen, Warwick and Oil Springs this year.

Nominations for the Oct. 26 municipal election have just closed across the province. Clerks in each municipality will verify the list of candidates Monday.

However, in the online portals for Petrolia, Enniskillen, Warwick and Oil Springs, only one candidate is registered to run for the position mayor.

Joel Field, the current deputy mayor of Petrolia, was filed his nomination papers May 1 – the first day of the nomination period. Field was first elected as a councillor in 2010 and has served 16 years.

Enniskillen Mayor Kevin Marriott is running unopposed. He was first elected to council in 1994, served seven years as deputy mayor and was elected as mayor in 2011. He’s been acclaimed ever since then. Marriott is also the current warden of Lambton county, a position he’s held since 2020.

Todd Case will serve another term as the mayor of Warwick. Case was re-elected in the 2022 vote after taking a four year break from municipal politics. He was first elected mayor in 2001.

Al Broad has been acclaimed to a fourth term as mayor of Dawn-Euphemia. The long-time politician began his political career as a councillorand was acclaimed to the position of mayor in 2014 when the amalgamated township’s first mayor, Bill Bilton, retired.

In Oil Springs, Ian Veen is the only candidate for the job of mayor. The former deputy warden of Lambton was first elected as mayor in 2003. He defeated Gord Perry in 2014, but otherwise has been acclaimed to the position in Lambton County’s smallest community.
