Brooke-Alvinston is going to look at a way to fund improvements to the Cameron Road Bridge.

The bridge, according to engineers, is in need of between $1.25 million and $2 million in repairs. If the repairs could not be done, the engineers said it should be closed.

Neighbours around the bridge pleaded with council July 23 to fix it.

During the Aug. 13 council meeting, Councillor Jenny Redick suggested the municipality approach the County of Lambton and Dawn-Euphemia for support to look for cash from the Connecting Links grant program for the repairs.

“If that bridge goes out, there could be a lot more wear and tear on their county roads,” she noted.

Councillors agreed to have staff prepare a funding strategy for the repairs and to fund a hydrological study to see how far the bridge abutments can be placed into the riverbanks.

Mayor David Ferguson says the engineering on the project has to be done quickly so staff can apply for grants to complete the repairs.
