Triest, Shakespeare win bronze at Canadian Fast Pitch Championship

The Shakespeare Falcons went 4-2 and were awarded bronze medals at the Softball Canada Master (40+) Men’s Championship in Saskatoon last weekend.

The Falcons roster included Andy Triest of Alvinston and Lee Hopkins for the Moraviantown First Nation near Bothwell.

Triest went 7-for-14 at the plate including four hits in the playoffs while playing every inning in centre field. He had a triple, two runs scored and five RBI.

Hopkins threw eight innings for the Falcons and was 1-for-3 at the dish.

The host Saskatoon team won the gold beating Cobourg, 2-0 in the final.

Meantime, the Bear Creek Express, with former Alvinston Aces skipper Paul “Chico” McCart on its management team were declared the winner of the Canadian men’s championship when the final day was rained out.

The Express roster also included former Alvinston players Ty Sebastian and Jeff Lyons.

B.C. and Nova Scotia finished second and third.

Alvinston arena project on schedule
