With the OHL preseason in the rear view mirror, the Sting is now preparing for its league opener against the Greyhounds in the Soo on Saturday night.

Sarnia ended its exhibition schedule with a 7-1 win over the London Knights before 2,298 fans at Progressive Auto Sales Arena Friday.

Matthew Manza and Myles Dunn each scored twice for the Sting with Chase Gaughan adding a goal and three assists. Cameron Aucoin and Tyler Challenger also scored for Sarnia.

Jack Van Volsen and Braydon Sisco each contributed a pair of assists.

Kale Osipenko was the winning goaltender with 24 saves as the Sting outshot the Knights, 39-25.

A night earlier in London, the Sting doubled the Knights, 8-4 with Manza and Van Volsen each scoring twice and ex-Knight Logan Hawery adding a goal and three assists.

Grand Bend’s Kane Barch had two helpers for London and ended the preseason with three goals and six points in four games.

Evan Van Gorp of Watford also drew an assist versus the Sting and ended the exhibition campaign with five points, all assists, in five contests.

London opens its regular season with a home-and-home series with the Windsor Spitfires this weekend with the Knights hosting the opening game on Friday night. Windsor’s roster includes Corunna’s John McLaughlin who is beginning his second season with the Spits.

Meantime on the transaction front, the Knights dealt Brady Wassilyn to Saginaw this week for Carson Harmer.

Harmer had 18 goals and 44 points in 66 games last season with the Spirit. Wassilyn, the former fourth overall pick in the 2024 OHL draft by Niagara, has 19 goals and 46 points in 61 games split between the Knights and IceDogs last season.

London also traded Brody Cook to Kingston late last week for a draft choice and the Sting signed third-round draft choice Brody Brown to an OHL contract. Brown has been reassigned to Leamington in the OJHL.
