There will be more gravel roads in Brooke-Alvinston before winter or at least patches of gravel.

Brooke-Alvinston councillors have agreed to tear up the asphalt in sections of two roads which have been damaged and repaired countless times.

Public Works Supervisor Jamie Butler recommended tearing up about 700 meters of asphalt on Petrolia Line between Nauvoo Road in Churchill Line. It’s on a hill which councillors previously approved engineering work be completed so it could be replaced.

Butler says it should be removed and pulverized.

“We’ve done some test holes and it’s not very good material underneath there. So if we do move forward on doing these road repairs next budget or whenever, we’re going to be pulverizing regardless.”

He added staff can’t keep up with the holes and so far this year have spent over $22,804 repairing the municipalities roads with cold patch, including Petrolia Line. “It’s just costing a lot of money,” he said.

Butler also suggested Rokeby Line between Ebenezer and Inwood Road would be returned to gravel and pulverized.

Butler estimates it will cost about $18,246 to complete the work on Rokeby and Petrolia Line.

Council agreed with the move saying it was an issue of safety this winter.
