The puck drops this Friday on a new season of Petrolia Squires senior hockey and it’s a tough task right out of the gate.
The Squires entertain the defending Ontario Elite Hockey League champion Seaforth Centenaires at Greenwood at 8:30.
Seaforth won the south division banner last season with a 15-4-1 record and went on to win the overall league title with playoff victories over Tavistock, Fergus and Ripley.
Petrolia finished second in the divisional standings last season with a 15-5 mark but lost in the first round of the postseason to Elora.
The Squires signed four players ahead of their opener, adding Ty Moffatt and Noah Harse from the Petrolia Flyers, Dylan Dupuis from the Mooretown Flags, and Zach Vanderwal from the Alvinston Killer Bees.
Seaforth is already 2-0 on the season with wins against Dunnville and Delhi. Former Sarnia Sting Brady Hinz leads the Centenaires in early season scoring with three goals and nine points in two games.
