It’s Election Day in Ontario.

Across the province, residents of over 400 municipalities will be casting votes today for their next municipal council and school board trustees.

In Lambton County, there are races in all the municipalities, except the Township of Enniskillen where the entire council was acclaimed for the fourth term in a row.

In Petrolia, Dawn-Euphemia and Warwick Townships, only councillors will be elected.

Most Lambton municipalities are using online voting for all or part of the election. And officials have been releasing voter turn out numbers since the internet voting opened Oct. 16.

In Petrolia, officials say 27.24 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots by Sunday.

Voter turnout in Plympton-Wyoming, where incumbent Gary Atkinson faces a challenge from former councillor Tim Wilkins for the mayor’s chair, was at 24.8 per cent by Friday afternoon.

In Lambton Shores, voter turn out stands at 21.55 per cent. Incumbent Mayor Doug Cook faces a challenge from current councillor Jeff Wilcox in that race.

By Sunday morning, 23 per cent of eligible St. Clair Township voters cast a ballot.

Just over 20 per cent of the eligible voters in Warwick voted as of Saturday.

Point Edward passed 30 per cent voter participation as of 9:15 on Sunday night. Municipal officials will be at the Community Hall Monday from 10 am until 8pm to help with online voting.

In Sarnia, As of 4 p.m. Friday, more than 10,000 people had already voted. Officials said 10,085 electors had cast their vote via the internet voting system about 16.5 per cent of voter turn out.

While all municipalities using the online voting system have staff available at the municipal office from 10 am to 8 pm at the municipal office to help with online voting, Sarnia is the only municipality where residents can go to a local poll and cast a paper ballot this year.
