“I got big work ahead of me,” says Jamie Armstrong, the mayor-elect of Brooke-Alvinston.

He was declared the winner on Monday night.

Armstrong pulled 591 votes winning the mayor’s chair over Councillor Don McCabe, who received 380 votes, as well as Marcus Deloughery, who captured 85 votes. Armstrong will take over for Mayor David Ferguson who decided not to run for re-election.

“I am very relieved, it was a long campaign,” said Armstrong, adding he knew the vote would be close but he had no idea how the vote was going to go.

Obtaining funding from the provincial government as well as road improvements are definitely a top priority for Armstrong, as well as negotiating a new the Lambton Area Water Supply System agreement, which is needed if Alvinston grows in the future.

“The previous council has left Brooke-Alvinston in a very good position,” said Armstrong, complementing Mayor Ferguson and the council.

Craig Sanders topped the councillor poll, winning 724 votes. Newcomer Dianne MacDougall came in second with 720 followed by Jenny Redick with 720 votes and Frank Nemcek, who garnered 671.

Officials said 49.71 per cent of the eligible voters in Brooke-Alvinston cast a ballot.
