It’s a first for Lambton College.
The Lions won its first-ever OCAA women’s cross-country championship at Fanshawe Conservation Area Saturday afternoon.
Lambton edged out the host Falcons, Mohawk, Sheridan and Humber in a tight five-way race for the title.
Flourish Nmor led the Lions with a seventh-place finish followed by teammates Abilene Clark, Megan Denbak and Emma Munroe in ninth, 16th and 20th place respectively. Madison Japp and Caelin Podolinsky were non-scoring members of the squad placing 28th and 37th.
Five members of the six-person team are first-year Lions, including Northern grad Clark along with LCCVI products Japp and Podolinsky. Munroe, from North Lambton, is in her second year at the college.
Nmor was chosen to the OCAA all-Ontario first team as was Lions teammate Michael Belan who placed sixth in the men’s race.
Lambton was ninth in the men’s standings.
The women’s team along with Belan, an LCCVI grad, advance to the national college cross-country championships in Edmonton Nov. 14-15.
Lambton’s head cross-country coach Scott Burns was also chosen as the OCAA cross-country coach of the year.
