Forest Kiwanis hope a mandarin, apple and cucumber can raise some cash for Kineto

Lambton’s biggest pie auction set for tonight in Alvinston
September 26, 2014
Wayne Deans takes is pie very seriously.
It’s not just that the Brooke-Alvinston-Watford Agriculture Society member likes pie, he knows it is a great way to raise money for charity.
Deans is one of the people behind one of the most successful pie auctions in Lambton County. The Brooke-Alvinston-Watford Fall Fair pie auction started 20 years ago. Bill Hale, Steve Kucera and Fred Oriet bought some of the first winning pies auctioned off to raise money for the Children’s Hospital.
Deans says the auction is quite an event with members of the community buying up the top prize winners from the fair competition. Last year, the top raspberry pie fetched $1,250.
This year, Deans says, one person has already committed to spending $1,500 on a baked confection.
Deans says it is all in good fun in an effort to raise money for a great cause.
Last year $13,000 was raised selling 40 pies. In the last five years $34,000 has been given to the Children’s’ Hospital from the event.
This year’s auction starts at 8 pm Friday night at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Arena.
