A tragic farm accident outside of Petrolia has claimed a life.

Lambton OPP say a 78 year old man was helping to transfer corn from a storage bin on Lasalle Road to a transport truck around 1:30 pm Friday. Police say he fell into the the grain bin.

Petrolia/North Enniskillen firefighters, as well as the Oil Springs department and Lambton County paramedics were called to the scene and worked for over an hour to try to reach him.

Police say David John Brand died in the accident.

The Ministry of Labour and the Regional Coroner’s Office are investigating. A post mortem is scheduled for Saturday morning.

$6.2M expansion planned at Forest school
