The Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame has cancelled its 2020 induction banquet due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The 38th annual dinner was slated to take place in October.
However, Hall of Fame president Pete Coenjarts said it isn’t clear whether large gatherings will be permitted by that time.
Even if large crowds are permitted by then, many people may be hesitant to attend the event, which often attracts 400 people or more, Coenjarts said.
There was talk of inducting people into the Hall and simply presenting them with a plaque. But the board of directors decided it did not want to name a class of 2020 without a celebratory dinner.
Directors are accepting nominations for the class of 2021 throughout the remainder of this year.
