Icebreaking near Port Lambton suspended because of high winds
February 5, 2021
The ice breaking operation on the St. Clair River to remove an ice plug near Port Lambton is temporarily on hold.
Canadian Coast Guard officials say gale force winds and strong wind warning stopped the operation underway around 1 pm.
Earlier today, Coast Guard reported the water levels had decreased noticeably in the lower St. Clair River with flooding easing.
but the ice was still not flowing effectively and continues to jam in the area of Willow Point near Port Lambton, officials said. They said it was affecting the movement of shipping and the risk of flooding remains.
Two ships which were expecting to be escorted through the icy waters will have to wait due to the gale force winds.
