Professional firefighter from Caledon slated to become new PW fire chief
April 27, 2021
Plympton-Wyoming is about to hire a new fire chief.
A draft bylaw on the Wednesday council agenda shows Darryl Thompson will be appointed as Director of Fire and Emergency Services and Fire Chief for the Plympton-Wyoming Fire Department, with council’s approval.
The Independent has learned Thompson’s tentative start date is June 1 and is expected to be in the region to meet with firefighters before that.
Thompson has 15 year’s experience as a firefighter and has served as the president of the Caledon Professional Firefighters Association.
Thompson, if approved by council, takes over for Chris Freer who has been acting fire chief since Steve Clemens resigned in October 2020 after three years dogged by controversies such as a video camera surveillance in the Wyoming station and the firing of three senior firefighters..
