Smoke but no fire at Henry plant
June 3, 2021
There was some smoke, but no fire.
Firefighters were called to the Henry Company plant in Petrolia to help put out some smouldering insulation on the side of an asphalt tank.
Petrolia North Enniskillen firefighters went to the Tank St plant which makes roofing materials just before 6 pm Wednesday after smoke was spotted on an asphalt tank by employees.
Firefighters used a fire extinguisher while the hoses were set up to reach the tanks.
Chief Jay Arns says “product spilled into the insulation between outside cladding and the tank making the insulation smoulder.
“Crews quickly cooled it down once the (insulation) cladding was removed.”
Plant manager Warren Doxtater says employees erred on the side of caution calling firefighters to help smother the smoldering insulation on the side of the tank.
There was only minor damage to the insulation on the tank and production at the plant was not interrupted.
