Bluewater Health is reporting a second outbreak at the Sarnia hospital.

Officials report today the Surgical B Unit in in outbreak with six patients and four staff testing positive for COVID-19.

That’s in addition to the outbreak in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit which was declared Jan. 7. There are now six patients and six staff who have tested COVID-19 positive from that outbreak.

In all, there are 41 patients who have tested positive for the virus.

Meantime, Lambton Public Health is reporting another death today. Ninety-two people have now died in Lambton of the virus since the pandemic started.

Officials also say there are about 800 people ill with the virus in Lambton right now. That’s only the people public health knows about. The province changed testing requirements, so now, most people who fall ill never have a PCR test to confirm they have the virus.

Public health did report 141 new cases today – a combination of results which have been backlogged and those still eligible for testing such as health care workers, residents and staff at long term care and the medically vulnerable.
