Petrolia Flyers clinch playoff spot despite loss

From Your Sports News: Mooretown kept its slim chance of finishing second in the PJHL’s Stobbs Division alive with a 3-1 win over Petrolia Saturday at the Moore Sports Complex.

The Flags are three points behind Essex for second place with just two games remaining in the regular season. Essex can clinch second place with a home ice win against Amherstburg Tuesday.

Petrolia is also heading for the postseason as they clinched a playoff spot on Saturday when Wallaceburg lost to Wheatley.

If the current standings hold, the Flyers will take on Essex in the first round and Mooretown will skate against the Blenheim Blades.

On Saturday, Mason Flett, Jake Vince and Tristan Konrad scored for the Mooretown with Greg Hay adding two assists.

Andrew Jaques had the lone goal for Petrolia extending his goal scoring streak to four games.

Nathan King made 22 stops for the win between the pipes, while Tyler Richardson took the loss, making 53 saves for the Flyers.
