A Quebec trucker is still in jail as he waits for his next court hearing Wednesday after one of the biggest drug busts at Sarnia’s border crossing.
Justice of the Peace Helen Gale denied bail for a 24-year-old Quebec City trucker, who was charged after approximately 265 kilograms of suspected illegal drugs, valued at $47 million, was allegedly attempted to be smuggled across the border from Michigan on Jan. 13.
Suspected heroin, pink cocaine and methamphetamines were found among garbage bags and spare tires during a secondary inspection of a commercial transport truck at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward.
Arshdeep Sing is charged with three counts of importation and three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The bail decision was made in Sarnia court on May 4.
He is currently in custody at Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton. He will be appearing in Sarnia court again for a Crown pre-trial on May 18.
All evidence heard during the bail hearing is protected by a publication ban, which also includes the reasons Gale had for denying bail.
