Petrolia U18 clubs win big at regional tournaments

Two Petrolia Oiler U18 teams were big winners this weekend.

The U18 AE Team claimed the regional Silver Stick Championship in South Huron with a 3-0 victory over Strathroy in the final.

The Oilers lost to Strathroy 6-2 in the round robin play. Petrolia went into the semi finals with a record of two wins and that single loss.

They beat Ilderton 2-1 in the semi-finals and then avenged their earlier lost to Strathroy with the 3-0 victory for the Silver Stick.

And the U18 Petrolia Oiler Rep Team beat the hometown Thorold Blackhawks to claim the Beaverloch Farms Tournament on the weekend.

The Oilers had a record of two wins one tie and a loss heading into the finals beating Mt Brydges 1-0, tying Lambton Shores at ones, and beating Mariposa 4-0.

They took on first place Thorold and Petrolia triumphed with a 3-0 win for the tournament championship.

The Oiler U18 Reps claimed gold in Thorold Sunday.

Over 1,800 traffic charges laid on long weekend in southwestern Ontario

The Independent West Region OPP officers laid 1,815 charges following 2,107 traffic stops across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign. The campaign focused on speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.  Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over Law which gives emergency responders the space they need conduct other work on the roadside.
