Rare early drawing of Petrolia
December 25, 2022
Pen and ink drawing from the collection of Ron VanHorne
Ron VanHorne knew he had a rare find. The former CAO of Lambton County is known for his ability to find historic pieces about all things Lambton. He recently showed The Independent this hand drawn depiction of Petrolia in 1877. The print was inscribed the words Toronto Eng. Co and is titled “Petrolia, from the Town Derrick, looking Eastward, From a photography by Hunter & Co., (late Ewing & Co.) 39 & 41 King Street West, Toronto.” VanHorne believes it had been reframed in the 1960s.
