Keegan Hornbostel of LCCVI’s band was given the rock star treatment at Brigden Public School Feb. 16. The elementary school students were getting into Hornbostel’s guitar riffs during the bands version of the Kansas classic Carry On My Wayward Son. Each year, students in the music programs – including the band, choir and drum line – pack up their instruments in a U-Haul and travel to the elementary schools in the region. Jessica McKay, the head of the music department, says it gives the young students a good idea of some of the things they can do once they reach high school.

No injuries after school bus accident near Camlachie

March 31, 2025

No one was injured after an accident between a school bus and a passenger vehicle Monday morning. Lambton OPP said around 7 am, the bus and vehicle collided on Fleming Road north of Lakeshore Road. There were passengers on the bus, police said, but no one was injured. A 41-year-old Camlachie man has been charged with careless driving.

Petrolia tosses out paper ballots, 2026 vote online only

Heather Wright/The Independent Petrolia’s 2026 municipal election will be all online. Council agreed to the move March 24. Mandi Pearson, director of legal services for the town, says the 2022 election had two options, online voting or heading to town hall to cast a paper ballot. Mayor Brad Loosley championed the idea saying many elderly people preferred the paper ballot.
