Rain cancels Sydenham Canoe and Kayak Race

April 26, 2023

There will be no Sydenham River and Canoe Race again this year.

Instead of the pandemic cancelling the long established Ontario Canoe and Kayak Association sanctioned races, the weather is the culprit this year.

“Due to the amount and length of rainfall expected over the next three days, site conditions at both the start and finish lines are not expected to be useable on Sunday for the race,” said Donna Blue of the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.

“We felt it was best to make the call now to cancel the race in order to notify participants and those who planned to attend.”

The annual race is recognized by the Ontario Marathon Canoe Kayak Racing Association and is fundraiser to support conservation education programs.

Those who have pre-registered for the race will receive a full refund.
