IESO nixes Enbridge’s plans for St. Clair power for now storage

May 16, 2023

It seems there will not be battery storage operations in Lambton County – at least not anytime soon.

Late Tuesday, the Independent Electricity System Operator released the companies which would provide battery power storage in southern Ontario.  The units, made of lithium ion batteries, would hold power until it was needed in the peak usage hours.

Enbridge had bid for three storage projects in St. Clair Township, but when the IESO released the successful bidders, Enbridge Gas was not on it.

The battery storage operations caused a stir not only in St. Clair but in Enniskillen Township, where a power company decided not to invest in the rural community after facing stiff opposition.

There was one familiar name on the list of power providers. Eastern Power won the right to build a 212 MW gas plant in St. Clair Township.
