Petrolia’s mayor will continue on a medical leave of absence until the end of the year.

Town council met privately Monday night to discuss the matter and then approved Brad Loosley’s leave of absence extension until the end of the year.

Loosley has been off on medical leave for three months after undergoing heart bypass surgery. Under the Ontario Municipal Act, members of council can take a leave of absence for up to three months and still retain their seat. After that, council has to extend the leave.

Acting Mayor Joel Field says Loosley asked for the six month extension.
