Algae bloom in Grand Bend doesn’t produce toxins: public health
October 6, 2023
Public health officials now say the algae bloom found in Grand Bend is not toxic.
Tuesday an algae bloom was found in the Ausable River/Parkhill Creek near the Grand Bend Yacht Club Tuesday. Officials first thought it was a blue green algae which is dangerous to human health.
Earlier today, Lambton Public Health announced the algae bloom wasn’t the blue/green variety but they weren’t sure if it was toxic.
Public health officials now say lab tests from the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks show the bloom isn’t producing toxins with the potential to impact human health.
Officials say all recreational water activities are safe to resume.
