East Lambton Eagles claim Silver Stick in OT

December 31, 2024

The East Lambton Eagles are Silver Stick champions after beating the Wallaceburg Lakers in a nail-biting 5-4 overtime win.

The Eagles drew first blood in the U18 Tier 2 championship game Monday in Petrolia as Sam Hayter scored on a power play at 10:37 of the first period. Max Gaspar and Ryan Minten assisted.

Four minutes later Owen Hurley passed to Cole Pranger who hit the net to make it a 2-0 game.

Wallaceburg tied up the first with an unassisted goal by Brock Mailloux. He assisted as Justin Schepens scored with one second left in the first.

The teams traded goals in the last five minutes of the second. Michael MacKellar scored for the Eagles with an assist from Jack Ramsey. Then Wallaceburg’s Mailloux tied it up again less than a minute later.

In the third, Mailloux completed the hat trick with his third unassisted goal of the game at the six minute mark.

But, with just 51 second left, Ryan Bork took a pass from Hayter and MacKellar and found the back of the net to tie the game at four and send it into overtime.

At 13:45 of the first overtime, Hayter fed the puck to Pranger who found the back of the net for the championship winning goal – his second of the night.

The Eagles now head to the Forest Silver Stick Finals which begin Jan. 10.
