Chartand stops 65 in win over Essex

February 3, 2025

John Chartrand was chosen the first star in Mooretown’s 2-1 win over Essex on Saturday at the Moore Sports Complex. He likely could have given the second and third star too as he made a career high 65 saves in the victory. His previous high this season was 57 stops in a home ice loss to the 73’s in November.

Dane Nisbet and Dylan Dupuis scored for the Flags in the second period and Adam Broad had two assists.

The 73’s spoiled Chartrand’s shutout bid early in the third period.

It was only Essex’s fourth regulation loss of the season and it was the first win by the Flags over the 73’s since December 2021.

Mooretown is now in fifth place in the Stobbs Division with a record of 17-15-6. They are a point behind Amherstburg and the Wheatley Sharks and two points up on the Blenheim Blades.

Essex rebounded for a 7-3 win over the Blades in Blenheim on Sunday. Alvinston’s Joey Hayer had an assist for the Blades.

The Flags take on the Sharks in Wheatley on Wednesday and host Walpole Island on Saturday as they begin the final two weeks of the regular season.
