Dale Hunter has joined elite company in Canadian junior hockey.

The Oil Springs native and the Petrolia Minor Hockey product won his 1,000 career regular season game on Friday as the London Knights edged the Kingston Frontenacs, 3-2.

Hunter is second on the all-time wins list behind Brian Kilrea who has 1,194 victories.

Kilrea coached the Ottawa 67’s from 1974-2009. Hunter, who will turn 65 in July, has been at the helm of the Knights since 2001 with the exception of a short stint with the NHL’s Washington Capitals.

Hunter will trying for 1,001 in Sarnia Sunday.
