March 18, 2025
It was a mixed bag for LCCVI’s girls hockey team at the OFSAA A/AA Hockey Championships on Tuesday.
The Holy Cross Raiders from St. Catharines beat LCCVI 6-1 in the opening game for both teams. It didn’t take long for the second-seeded Raiders to take the lead, scoring in the first three minutes. Penalties cost LCCVI in the second with Holy Cross finding the back of the net twice on the power play to extend their advantage to 3-1. The Raiders salted the game away with three unanswered goals in the third period. Olivia Minten had LCCVI’s lone goal, a power play tally in the second period.
The Lancers rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Simcoe’s Holy Trinity in the afternoon. Holy Trinity took the first lead of the game, scoring a shorthanded goal with just over six minutes left in the second period. Ella McCallum responded quickly for LCCVI, driving the net and beating the Holy Trinity goaltender with a shot along the ice. 38 seconds later, the Lancers took their first lead when Noelle Edgar tipped in an Olivia Minten point shot. Minten tacked on an insurance goal in the third, scoring with a powerful wrist shot off the rush. Chloe Reid picked up the win between the pipes for LCCVI.
The Lancers face Lo-Ellen Park from Sudbury on Wednesday morning. With a win, LCCVI would move onto the quarterfinals. Further results were not available at the publishing date. Visit The Independent website for more updates on the tournament.
