Sarnia’s mayor wants to take down US flags on city property

March 19, 2025

Sarnia’s mayor wants to remove American flags on municipal property.

Mike Bradley, in a letter to council, says the city should not fly the nation’s flag since US President Donald Trump’s government “is doing everything possible to jeopardize Canada economically and socially and tries to make it the 51st state.”

Bradley is asking council to approve the removal of all US flags on municipal property and ask the Lambton Area Water Supply System also take down the US flags near the international border crossing at the Bluewater Bridge.

Bradley says he takes no satisfaction in suggesting the move, since he has friends over the border, but “given the Trump tariffs, the times that we’re in leave no option but to stand up for Canada and the economic terrorism that the Trump Regime has launched against Canadians.”

Sarnia would not be the first municipality to take the action. Mississauga’s mayor also removed US flags in her city Monday.
