Flyers edge Hawks for two game lead in finals

March 24, 2025

Ethan Flintoff’s power play goal early in the second period was the game-winner as the Petrolia Flyers beat the Exeter Hawks, 2-1 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Yeck Division final in the PJHL. Game three is Thursday in Petrolia.

Austin Harper had opened the scoring for the Flyers in the first period and Will Coward replied for the home team just 18 seconds after the Flintoff marker before nearly 900 fans.

Flintoff, the 21-year-old rearguard from Burlington, is averaging more than a point per game in the playoffs with four goals and 17 points in a dozen games.

Tobias Iantorno was held off the scoresheet ending his point streak at 25 games dating back to when he joined the Flyers in December.

Ethan Everaert stopped 20 o 21 shots in the Petrolia crease for his eighth straight playoff victory. The Flyers outshot Exeter, 37-21, including 21-5 in the first period.

In the Stobbs Division final, Essex downed Lakeshore, 5-2 to tie that series at one.

The Yeck and Stobbs Division winners will play for the conference championship.
