As the nomination deadline in the federal election looms, seven candidates ready to run in Sarnia-Lambton-Bkjewnanong

If you want to become the Member of Parliament for Sarnia-Lambton Bkjewnanong, you have until 2 pm to join the race and the field is already crowded.

There are now seven official candidates according to Elections Canada.

Brian Everaert, who declared his intention to run as soon as the election was called, has been confirmed as the Peoples’ Party of Canada candidate over the weekend.

Mark Lamore, who ran for the Ontario Party in the provincial election just a month ago, is now registered to run in the federal election for the Christian Heritage Party. It has 25 candidates nominated across the country including 14 in Ontario.

Lamore is the second candidate to run in both the provincial and federal election; the Libertarian Party of Canada President Jacques Bourdreau of Petrolia is also listed as a federal candidate.

Rounding out the list of people vying to be MP in Sarnia-Lambton-Bkjewanong just hours before the nominations close are the NDP’s Lo-Anne Chan, Marilyn Gladu of the Conservative Party, George Vandenberg of the Liberals and Tony Mitchell of the Rhino Party.

The first of four debates to be held in the riding is Tuesday hosted by the Sarnia Rotary Club. The Lambton Federation of Agriculture hosts an event at the Plympton-Wyoming Fairgrounds April 9, the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce and the Sarnia-Lambton Real Estate Board host another debate April 15 and the final debate will be held in Petrolia April 21. It’s hosted by The Independent.
