May 5, 2025
Lambton Public Health is warning of a measles exposure at the Bluewater Health in Sarnia.
Officials say on Monday, Apr. 28 someone exposed to the highly-contagious virus came into the emergency department from 2 am to 5:20 am and 7:30 am to 10:20 am.
Public health officials say if you were exposed at that time, you should monitor for symptoms of measles which can appear up to 21 days after exposure but usually occur within 7-12 days.
If you develop symptoms of measles avoid contact with others and do not attend public places. I
It is important to call your health care provider or any health care setting you might need to attend
ahead of time, to alert them of your symptoms so appropriate precautions can be taken.
There have now been 15 measles cases in Lambton County during the recent province-wide outbreak – five have come in the last week.
Across the province this year there have been 1,242 measles case. The virus had been eradicated in Canada in 1988.
The vast majority of the cases have been in children who have not been vaccinated.
