Petrolia to answer your questions by text with new 24/7 service

June 12, 2025

There is a new way to talk to officials at Petrolia’s town hall.

The municipality is rolling out a new text service for residents.

TextMyGov is an around-the-clock way to directly connect to ask questions, says Laurissa Ellsworth, director of marketing, arts and communications.

Ellsworth says people can sign up for alerts from the town by texting “PETROLIA” to 289-769-9799. Once residents sign up. They can ask a question by simply texting “Hi” and they’ll be prompted to ask a question. A direct link to the information will be texted to your phone.

“This is an idea that is gaining traction in many communities as the world looks for answers to questions on a 24-hour period and not just while offices are open to the public,” she says.

Ellsworth adds your phone number will only be used for alerts and questions and you’ll only receive alerts for things such as emergencies, water service interruptions, waste collection delays, and planned power outages.
