Legwand turned down chances to sell Sting to keep team in Sarnia

Mark Guy says Sting fans owe a debt of gratitude to David Legwand.

One of the new owners of the OHL club says Legwand had opportunities to sell the team to outside interests that would have moved the franchise but resisted those overtures.

Guy, a former NHL player agent and Ryan Finch, a successful businessman, were introduced to the public at an official unveiling of the new ownership group on Monday.

“The community of Sarnia owes David (Legwand) a big thank you for that,” said Guy.

As the new majority owners of the team, Guy says he and Finch remain fully committed to Sarnia.

“We’re not going anywhere,” he said.  “This is home.”

Neither Guy or Finch would discuss the financial portion of the transaction nor who owns what percentage of the franchise only to say that the trio will work together toward a common goal.

“We’re here to win,” said Guy. “We are going to do whatever we can to bring an OHL championship and Memorial Cup to Sarnia.”

Meantime, the OHL revealed its schedule for the 2025-26 season this week.

Sarnia opens at home against the Windsor Spitfires on Sept. 19.

The Knights will host Owen Sound on the same date on a night when London will unveil its latest OHL and Memorial Cup championship banners.

July 12, 2025

Heather Wright/The Independent When Abraham Smith and his wife, Anna Hoy, arrived on the shores of the St. Clair River, there was nothing but trees which blocked out the sun. Remembering Croton

July 12, 2025

Heather Wright/The Independent Harold Snary stands under a tree in the postal village of Croton. Those standing with him see a new, siding-clad school and church, a few homes and the traffic whizzing down Oakdale Road. At the corner of Oakdale and Croton Road, they might notice the building which used to be the general store. For most, this 39-person
