After years of planning, the Petrolia splash pad is open.
Members of the Petrolia Kiwanis Club, which is donating $150,000 to pay for the water feature, pressed the button to get the water flowing Monday morning.
The town began considering a splash pad in 2016. Petrolia Kiwanis stepped up offering to pay for the project in 2021. Later, the club reached an agreement with the town to see the splash pad constructed as the club raised funds over 10 years to pay the capital costs.

Julie Bullock, director of parks and recreation for the town, had hoped to have it ready for the kids earlier this year, but a series of delays due to contractor timing pushed the open back until mid-August.
The splash pad, behind the Oil Heritage Community Centre/Y, is open from 9 am to 9 pm daily. Bullock wanted parents to be aware the nearby washroom is not yet complete but will be soon.
The official opening for the splash pad is Aug. 26.
