Playing with a very short bench, the Petrolia Flyers got an early start on the PJHL preseason bowing 4-3 in overtime to the Dolphins in Dorchester Saturday.

Two goals by Parker Davidson and one by Joey Shaw all in the opening nine minutes gave the Flyers a quick 3-0 lead. Dorchester cut the gap to 3-1 after twenty minutes and scored twice in the second period to tie the contest. The third period was scoreless.

Cole Shoup’s second goal of the contest in the extra period was the game-winner.

Dylan Campbell and Cooper Arts both had two assists for Petrolia.

Cayle Jolicoeur and Nicholas Jeranian shared the goaltending duties, each allowing a pair of goals.

Petrolia is now off until hosting Dresden at the Watford Arena on Aug. 29 at 7:30.

The Flyers also bolstered their blueline with the acquisition of Jace McGrail from the Sarnia Legionnaires.  McGrail, 20, has played 168 regular and playoff games over parts of the past four seasons with the Legion scoring 20 goals and adding 41 assists.

Mooretown’s preseason opener is this Saturday against North Middlesex at 6:30 pm at the Moore Sports Complex.

The PJHL regular season begins in mid-September.
