Community groups may be able to use the old Scotia Bank building in Petrolia by the beginning of October.
The town purchased the building last year after the company decided to close the branch.
Council approved a plan to rent out the front of the building for retail space and use the back as a community room. It may also house some of the town’s historic artifacts.
Julie Bullock, director of parks and recreation, says the town is in the final stages of construction now.
“We have some flooring to fix in the community use half of the space where we’ve had the teller desks removed,” she said in an email.
“We should have the community space side available for rent/use by the beginning of October.”
Bullock adds there is also a prospective retail tenant for the building. Staff will be bringing that to council in September.
