The thermometer may not agree, but OHL hockey is back.
Both the Sarnia Sting and the defending Memorial Cup champion London Knights open the new campaign with home games on Friday.
The Sting are home to the Windsor Spitfires on Friday, the same night London entertains Owen Sound.
London plays at Windsor on Saturday and the Sting make the trek to the Soo for a Sunday afternoon game against the Greyhounds.
The Sting and Spitfires will be without Lukas Fischer and Jack Nesbitt this weekend as they are attending the St. Louis and Philadelphia main NHL camps respectively.
Watford’s Evan Van Gorp should be in the London line up for the Knights’ opener.
He was returned to his junior club after attending the Columbus rookie camp last week.
Sarnia will also start the season without Alessandro Di Iorio.
The second overall pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection suffered an undisclosed injury during an exhibition game two weeks ago in Midland. He’s expected to miss four to five weeks.
Overage defenceman Mitch Young has returned to the Sting after attending Boston’s rookie camp. Sarnia also released veteran forward Daylen Moses after two seasons.
